I Write This With a Heavy Heart (Thousands in Need of Help)

BosniaIt is with a heavy heart that I write this post to you, my friend.

The unsuspecting devastation that has taken place in my homeland over the past week has been difficult to comprehend, to say the least.

If you’ve been following the news lately, then you’ve most likely seen the horrifying natural disaster that has continued to wreak havoc on my homeland of Bosnia and neighboring countries of Serbia and Croatia.

Last week, three months’ worth of rain fell on the region in three days, creating what have been claimed as the worst floods in over 120 years.

While it’s no shock that one day climate change will force us to abandon coastal cities, it is sad to see something like this happen to a place I once called home.

And so I need your help…

The Wave Crash Theory

Wave Crash Theory [Bloom to Fit]Answer this for me:

How are your new year’s resolutions coming along?

Wait, better yet, do you even remember what your resolutions are? Can you recall what goals you set for yourself?

Going into our fourth and final week of January of this new year, chances are good that you’ve already given up on many of your goals and resolutions. If you’re lucky, you’ll have a few more weeks in you before the ball drops.

It’s unfortunate, but research suggests that only about 8% of people actually achieve their goals each year. Eight. Freakin’. Percent! And while that number might surprise you, it doesn’t change the fact that we struggle to achieve the goals and aspirations we set for ourselves every single time. We start strong, we put in a few weeks of effort, and then we fall off and never get back up. Over and over again.

Today I want to outline a simple theory for why I think this happens.

It’s called The Wave Crash Theory. [Read more…]

A New Beginning for Bloom to Fit

New Beginning for Bloom to FitTwo years.

Believe it or not, it’s been just over two years since I gave birth to Bloom to Fit (wait, can I say that?).

Hmm. I can tell you this though:

It’s been one heck of a ride so far.

I’ve created a lot of content over the years. Not as much as I would have liked to, but as much as I could muster with everything else going on in my life.

And I’m sure I’ve made a ton of mistakes. Couple of set backs here and there. But the countless comments and emails I’ve received from my readers telling me that my content has helped improve their lives a little bit is all the motivation I need to keep going. To keep making mistakes. And to keep learning.

But, regardless of it all, one thing has remained the same:

Working on this blog has been an incredible joy for me. It has given me an outlet. An opportunity to share what I know and what I love. It has allowed me to unleash the creative beast inside of me.

But after two years of writing, I feel like there’s still something missing.

I feel like I could do more. Err better.  I feel like it’s time for Bloom to Fit to grow up. To mature into the beautiful flower it’s meant to be.

This is why I’m dedicating the year 2013 as the re-birth of Bloom to Fit.

Here’s what I mean… [Read more…]

What Seth Godin can Teach us About Building a Better Body

seth godinSeth Godin is one of my heroes.

He’s not a fitness guru or nutrition expert. In fact, I doubt he could even do 30 push ups on his best day (prove me wrong Seth!).

But Seth is one hell of a marketing genius.

And being a huge marketing nerd that I am, I’ll literally eat up anything this brilliant, bald man has to say. I’m always hungry for information and his stuff tastes good. Real damn good.

So I recently stumbled upon a brand new podcast (I’m a huge podcast fan) – Seth Godin’s Startup School – where you can actually listen to live recordings of Seth’s presentations to a group of hungry entrepreneurs on the verge of starting new ventures.

This is incredible stuff.

And, as ridiculously brilliant as his stuff is, it was hard for me not to realize something peculiar while listening to his lectures…

Every piece of advice he offers is, in one way or another, translatable to building a better body and living a better life.

Let me explain… [Read more…]

20 Ways to Make Life MORE Awesome

make life awesomeAs you know, many of my articles are on the topic of building a better body.

Because I truly believe that a better body allows us to live a better life.

Today, however, I’m going to flip things on its head a bit…

I’m going to focus on life itself.

This is the kind of post most bloggers would save for the beginning of a new year.

Something to help you with your ‘resolutions’. A way to start over. Start better.

But I don’t believe in resolutions. I don’t believe you need a time or an excuse to make a positive change in your life. If a change is needed, then why wait?

Start today. [Read more…]

tough mudder death waiverIt was a long wait, but the day finally came…

Tough Mudder Toronto 2012.

“Probably the toughest event on the planet.”

That was the claim anyways. That’s what we’ve been hearing for months before the start date.

There’s been a lot of hype around this challenge and it was finally time to step out onto the field and see what we were made of.

There was lots of good, some bad, and a little bit of ugly. But we all made it through alive and past the finish line.

Here’s a summary of what happened on this awesome day and what you can learn from our experience. [Read more…]

How I got caught Red-Handed doing Squats in the Bathroom

caught red handedYup.

It happened. I got caught!

I never thought it would happen this way, but it did. I’m usually careful not to make any noises. To time things perfectly. To cover all my tracks.

But this time I miscalculated.

I was off my game.

I got caught red handed…

Doing squats in the bathroom…at work.

Here’s what happened… [Read more…]

What a Herniated Disc Taught me about Building a Better Body

Herniated DiscHerniated disc.

Two words that completely changed my life.

Two words that changed the way I train, the way I eat, and the way I function.

Two words that basically taught me the importance of building a better body.

Like every experience, whether good or bad, there was something to be learned from this one – a lesson to be engraved deep inside me, never to be forgotten…

Here’s my story… [Read more…]

Is the Pursuit of Perfection Holding you Back from Success?

Are you a perfectionist?

Do you find yourself constantly pursuing that 100% percent marker?

The truth is, I think we all have some level of perfection-seeking inside of us.

We can’t help it. We’re just wired that way.

But the pursuit of perfection is a funny thing because it just might be the thing that’s holding you back from achieving great things in life.

Let’s dig in for a bit.
