Food Matters: An Eye-Opening Documentary

I recently had a chance to sit down and finally take a look at a documentary that was recommended to me weeks ago.

It’s a documentary about food – one of my favorite things in the world.

It’s called Food Matters and it’s going to open your eyes to the powerful effects nutrition can have on your health.

Are You Sitting Too Much?

There’s a very interesting infographic cycling around health sites all over the Internet right now showing the brutally shocking effects prolonged sitting can have on your health.

Did you know that on average we spend more time sitting down than we do sleeping?

With the rise of desk jobs and home theatre systems, we tend to spend 9.3 hours a day with our asses glued to the chair. Somehow I don’t think our bodies were designed for this.

And it’s true - sitting for more than 6+ hours a day makes you 40% likelier to die within 15 years than someone who sits less than 3 hours.

You might want to stand up for this…

What You Need to Know About Workout Supplements

I get a lot of questions from my readers about supplementation so I thought this would be a good time to put together a short post on workout supplements.

Q: Do I need to take any supplements after I work out?

Q: Should I take protein?

Q: Is Creatine safe?

Thousands of theories exist on the subject, some in favor of supplementation, others completely against it.

Here are my two cents…

Putting Things in Perspective

I’ve had a fairly rough last couple of weeks, to say the least.

Sunday, April 3rd

It was a simple pick-up game – six friends battling it out on the hardwood. Nothing was easy. Every basket had to be earned. Competitive juices were flowing.

Everything that made the game of basketball so fun for me was in full force.

I got the ball, made a swift move to the basket, spun around a defender and laid the ball up with my left hand.

All good.

I got the ball back. I started left, quickly crossed to the right and pulled up for a mid-range jump shot.

This time something was different. Something happened.

5 Best Fitness Apps to Improve Your Lifestyle

Mmmmm…technology.

So I recently gave in to my smartphone craving and got myself a brand-spankin’ new iPhone4.

As we all know, the 3rd party applications are what make the smartphone so powerful. Thanks to all the ridiculously creative and intelligent developers out there, we’re now able to do things that we thought were impossible even a decade ago.

Banking on your phone anyone?

Being the fitness freak that I am, the first thing I did was check out the various fitness applications. After testing and using dozens of them, here are the 5 best fitness apps I think can truly improve your lifestyle: [Read more...]

Are you Addicted to the Scale?

“It is clear. I am addicted to the scale. I have anxiety over how much I weigh and it’s constantly eating away at me. I want to know. I NEED to know. The number that scale spits out determines the mood I’ll be in for the day. I never realized how bad it was.”

Are you a scaleaholic? Are you addicted to the scale?

You decided to begin a weight loss program. You started exercising more and eating a little bit healthier. You started keeping track of your progress and measuring your weight. But somewhere along the way, you became obsessed. You developed an addiction to stepping on the scale and now everything, hopelessly, depends on what that scale says.

I’m all for keeping track of your progress, but checking your weight multiple times a day can do you more harm than good.

Here’s what you need to know.

4 Hour Body – Last Minute Christmas Gift

If you’re still hunting for that perfect gift for the fitness enthusiast on your list, I suggest you take a look at Timothy Ferriss’s latest book – The 4 Hour Body.

If the name sounds familiar, that’s because Tim Ferriss is the author of #1 New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and BusinessWeek bestseller The Four Hour Workweek (one of my all-time favorite books).

The Four Hour Body is a true masterpiece. It is the “result of an obsessive quest, spanning more than a decade, to hack the human body.”

The book contains the collective wisdom of hundreds of elite athletes, dozens of MDs, and thousands of hours of jaw-dropping personal experimentation. From Olympic training centers to black-market laboratories, from Silicon Valley to South Africa, Tim Ferriss focuses on one life-changing question:

For all things physical, what are the tiniest changes that produce the biggest results?

So what will this book teach you?
