Running Through the Mud for a Good Cause

You can’t see my face right now, but I’m kind of excited.

You see, on July 17, I’ll be taking part in what has to be the coolest fundraising event ever!

One trail, hundreds of runners, and a LOT of mud!

Wait, what?

Yup. For the second year now, the city of Waterloo, Ontario is hosting the one and only, ridiculously entertaining Dirty Dash. Appropriately titled. The best part is that all proceeds are going to the Special Olympics, so how can you possibly pass this up??

It seems that we rarely get a chance to let loose and act like kids these days. We’re so wired and stressed that we tend to forget what it’s like to kick back, relax and simply enjoy getting a little bit dirty.

I choose to embrace the little kid (with the sloppy hair and big nose) that’s inside of me. It’s fun to be a kid.

As for the race itself, I’m still deciding whether to do the 4km or 8km run/crawl. The little kid inside of me is saying just stick with the 4km – have some fun and enjoy the mud! But the competitive beast inside is begging me to forget that shit – go for the 8km and get that first place trophy. Hmmm interesting battle. It’ll probably be a game time decision.

Choice of clothes will be interesting too. Whatever I choose to wear will probably never see the light of day again.

So if you’re in town and looking for something crazy to do this upcoming weekend, come check out the 2nd Annual Dirty Dash.

I’ll do my best to get some pictures up next week. Like I said, I’m excited!

Time to get dirty!

  1. That sounds like an awesome event. Kind of similar to the warrior dash. I may have to look into that because I’m only an hour or so away (Toronto).

If I were you I’d do the 4km haha. That seems like plenty, especially for running in the mud.

    1. Yea I was doing some research to see what the event was about and it seems to be very similar to the Warrior Dash. Cool event overall!

You should definitely come by if you’re already so close. And I’m leaning towards the 4km since I got no clue what to expect! Hope to se you there.

  2. Srdjan,

This is awesome! The National Multiple Sclerosis Society hosts a similar event in Jacksonville during the spring called the MS Mud Run. It’s a 10K race through mud and a bunch of obstacles. Some of my friends participated and had a blast. Good luck!

  3. Hi Srdjan,

This sound like fun if I like to get dirty…haha. I guess I won’t mind if it’s for a good cause 🙂

    Have fun!

  4. Cool way to stay fit or should I say a dirty way to keep fit .. enjoy and that’s the best part of fitness …its not all about jogging on a treadmill watching TV for 1 hour.

  5. Sounds like an awesome event.I won’t mind if it’s for a good cause but you did such a great and fun experienced 😀 .

  6. Hi Srdjan

How did you get on? Sounds like a lot of fun. Reminds me of playing soccer in the UK in the winter when the pitches were just basically mud baths. I used to love playing in those conditions when I was a kid coming home covered head to toe in mud.

    1. Oh mannn it was an awesome event!! The mud was a little thicker and little deeper than what you were probably running through when playing soccer – but the feeling was probably the same.

I’m putting together a new post to let everyone know how the event went. There’s going to be pictures and everything. Make sure you come back and check it out 🙂
